Presidents Message - Spring 2014

Wow, 2014 is moving really quickly, or is it just me?

Last week we had our first meeting of the year and saw a great presentation by Rich Ackerman.  Rich’s presentation was both a preview of the great content that will be available at the HDI Conference as well as a general guide to coping with the type of change that we deal with in IT every day.

Rich brought up a great point in his presentation, one way of surviving within IT is leaning on your peers at work and within organizations like HDI.  In our chapter alone we have several stories of members and attendees leaning on one another to find process improvement, learn  from each other’s mistakes and even find employment.  It is an honor for me to locally lead an organization that can have this type of positive outcome within our community.

Of course I could not do this without our officers.  John Jester, Amy Bates, Mike Fitzpatrick and Jaime Nunnelee all help to make this a great chapter.  While each may hold a specific title, as a team we work together to bring about great programs that work for you.  As always happens in our industry though, we  have had some movement and two vacancies have become available.  Those are:

VP of Membership – As a VP of Membership, you will work with our other VP of Membership, Jaime Nunnelee, to assist our members.  Whether it is renewing membership, transitioning membership over from one person to another, recruiting new members, reaching out to members to find out what they are looking for, or just simply calling them up and seeing how things are going for them.

VP of Vendor Relations – As VP of Vendor Relations, you will work with our vendor members to help establish their role in the chapter.   Whether it be sponsoring the chapter, presenting at a meeting, working on a committee or just providing vendor perspective, the VP of Vendor Relations is the direct conduit for any and all vendors who want to work with our chapter.

Anyone interested in becoming an officer should email me with their interest by 4/25/14.  Once I have received those emails, we will hold an online vote and announce the winning candidates at our May meeting.

With the HDI Conference being held in April, we will not be having an April meeting.  If you are unable to attend the HDI Conference this year, I suggest that you visit our webpage and check out the HDI 2014 Digital Experience so that you may catch the highlights of the conference.

Lastly, I want to take a moment to thank all of our sponsors.  Without their assistance, we would not be able to bring in speakers like we did last week or hold events like our Annual Awards Banquet.

Check back in a few weeks as I will be giving some of my personal highlights from the HDI Conference.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to reach out to me.

Thank you,

Joe Arechederra
