Closing Out 2015

Hello all,

We are nearing the end of 2015 and all I can say is it has been a heck of a year.  From an industry front we continue to see the growth of vendors taking on a support role within established service desks, the onslaught of security risks due to malware and cyber attacks, and the ever increasing presence of personal devices being used for work.  From a chapter perspective we had several great meetings, both face to face and virtual, a HDI Support Analyst Training and Certification class was locally offered, and we ended the year with the crowning of our Analyst of the Year and Desktop Support Technician of the Year.  In other words, we had a lot going on!

If you were not able to attend this year’s awards banquet, you missed a lot.  The local improv troupe, 30 Rock from the Sun, kicked off the evening with some great comedy.  The fine folks at Grbic Restaurant provided a wonderful meal in a very warm atmosphere which allowed for a lot of friendly networking and socializing over drinks and dinner.  This led to Manley Feinberg, our guest speaker, who as always delivered a terrific presentation.  If you are not familiar with Manley, he is an award winning international speaker, business leader, and bestselling author who has spoken at Fusion, HDI Conference, and for several large companies nationwide.  You can learn more about Manley at his website.  After all this we ended our evening with the announcement of our Analyst of the Year and Desktop Support Technician of the Year.  This year we are proud to announce Larry Cornett of Enterprise Holdings as our Analyst of the Year and Natasha Barsh of Edward Jones as our Desktop Support Technician of the Year.  These two will go on to compete for the HDI Central Region Award and a free trip to Orlando for the 2016 HDI Conference in April.

Having conducted the interviews for all of these candidates, I can tell you that the choice of these two was not an easy decision and want to congratulate all of our candidates for their hard work and dedication that they offer to their companies, customers, and coworkers.  I also want to recognize those that nominated these individuals.  It becomes increasingly difficult to find the time just to get our jobs done on a daily basis.  The fact that you took the time to recognize your employees and attend our event on 12/10 speaks volumes to your dedication and commitment to your team.

With 2016 coming up around the corner, I want to let you all know that the Gateway Chapter officers are already lining up several speakers to come and present to you.  We literally have people coming to us asking to speak, which is a good way to start off 2016.  The officers of this chapter work hard to offer you great speakers and as always, we want your feedback and thoughts so that we can continue to make this chapter even better.

Speaking of the officers, I want to announce that as of December 31st of this year I will be stepping down as the HDI Gateway Chapter President.  I have held this position for four and a half years and feel it is now time to pass the torch on.  I set out to make this chapter a better chapter than when I started and feel as I have done so.  I am happy to announce the our current VP of Programs and Finance, John Jester, will assume the role of President and I am sure that he will guide the chapter on to even great heights.  I will continue to serve on the board and fill the open VP of Programs position.

In closing, I want to thank all of you for your participation and continued to support throughout the year.  None of this would be possible without the contribution of our members and supporting vendors.

I wish a happy holidays to everyone and a safe and pleasant New Years.

Thank you,

Joe Arechederra
